Awesome Canteen, Paramount Garden

A super overdue blog post that has been sitting in my draft for so long. Oh, A2, I can't wait for you to be over.

Friday night, Guan Ren & I decided to venture out from our usual food-hunting zone. Drove to Paramount Garden for the very first time to try out an awesome place...
Yep, Awesome Canteen, literally an awesome place. This intriguingly-named cafe has piqued my interest to check it out- by naming your own restaurant "awesome" you'd expect the food to live up to its name, right?
Spot the old milo tin!

"WELCOME," the enthusiastic people working behind the counter greeted us as we entered the place. The "canteen" was

The interior- pretty simple, yet stylish at the same time. Metal chairs & tables arranged neatly to give the place a sleek appearance, one side of the walls were painted green and the place was surrounded by greens too- with potted plants randomly placed around the canteen.
There's even a cosy corner at the back of the canteen, for those who prefers to have their meal in a more quaint & quiet corner.

It was fun, poking around Awesome Canteen, you'll get to find many items that you don't see every day. Take this old type writer for instance.
And all these old school erasers and board games. Brings back memories, doesn't it?
There's a separate menu for lunch & dinner. The "Paleo" section caught our attention- not many diners offers paleo meal and so we decided to give it a try.
After placing your order & making the payment at the counter, you'll be given a metal plate tag, like how most canteen works!
Soup of the Day RM8.90
Cream of Leek & Potato Soup, served with a slice of toasted garlic bread
The soup was delightfully thick & flavourful. Each mouthful was packed with wholesomeness and rich flavours. However, one who prefer their soup to incline more towards the creamy side wouldn't enjoy this soup as much as we do. This soup tasted really "healthy", and it was bulked up with vegetables puree I think.
Beef Paleo Burger RM21.90
Grilled Portobello Mushroom "bread", juicy grilled beef patty, melted swiss cheese, guacamole salsa & scrambled eggs, served with a side of salad & sweet potato fries
Yep, Paleo burger. All healthy ingredients are used in the construction of this monsterous-looking burger. No burger buns, no french fries (substituted by sweet potato fries), and hey, it comes with a side salad!
The burger patty was really juicy & tender! It was a delight, digging into the juicy beef patty with melted swiss cheese which was grilled to perfection. The grilled portobello mushroom too, complements the burger perfectly. The guacamole salsa adds a crunch to this juicy combo of mushroom & beef patty, creating a perfect medley of taste & texture.

The sweet potato fries was also something I enjoyed. Crispy, yet soft & fluffy on the inside, with a tinge of sweetness. Lovely.

My only qualm was the scrambled eggs, which were slightly overcooked, and it was cold when it was served to us :(

Guan Ren, who doesn't really fancy vegetables, didn't really enjoyed this burger as he claim that it tasted more like a salad with a beef patty than a burger, due to the overwhelmingly large proportion of vegetables in this dish lol!
Awesome Canteen would be an awesome place for one to hang out, especially if one is trying to eat clean/opting for a healthier alternative. Feeling guilt-free as we left this place. :P
