Afternoon Tea @ Maison Francaise, Kuala Lumpur

17th of May. A very significant date. Guan Ren's birthday.
I wanted to bring him to somewhere special for his birthday. After all, he is such a special someone to me. So after weeks of research on the internet, I finally found the perfect place for a special date.
Maison Francaise
Maison Francaise is a classy three-storey bungalow, converted into an elegant & beautiful French restaurant that is hidden up in the tranquil & shady lane of Jalan Changkat Kia Peng.
The facade of the bungalow was just stunning and elegant- standing amidst greens, the beautiful white bungalow with black fencing has a very inviting facade.
This beautifully refurbished bungalow is only a 5 minutes walk away from KL Convention Centre, hence you get an inviting view of KLCC from the place.

Even so, Guan Ren & I got lost while walking there. We sought help from a security guard that lead us the way.
Maison Francaise has a tranquil and serene atmosphere, as the place is draped in natural sunlight that bounces off the white walls.

This place is decorated with chic black and white furnitures, lovely floral table clothe, beautiful paintings, elegant chandelier and glimmering glasswares. The beauty of this place is just so hard to describe- it's so beautiful, elegant and lovely. In other words, it was the perfect place for our date.
The balcony seating that overlooks the beautiful swimming pool downstairs.
Truth to be told, I was in a state of shock when we were dining in Maison Francaise. I have seen pictures of this place from blogs and instagram. But I didn't know that the real thing would be so much prettier in real life.
The tea-time set is priced at RM38++ per person, and the minimum order is 2 person. Each sets is not inclusive of drinks but Maison Francaise provides complementary drinking water :) We ordered a seperate pot of tea as a high tea isn't complete without tea.
Ceylon Tea RM16
A pot of tea can be shared among two pax :)
Our tea set- served on a two-tier tray and a calming sky blue colour plate, that complements the floral table clothe perfectly.
From top, clockwise: Club Sandwich with Chicken, Mini Raspberry Tart, Salmon Canape, Cannela de Bordeaux, Cheese Tartin, Pain au Chocolate, Madeleine with Vanilla

Perfect. Everything was perfect.
Club Sandwich with Chicken features two thin & crunchy slice of bread, toasted to perfection, sandwiching their rich & creamy home cooked chicken.
Mini Raspberry Tart was a crumbly cake-like tart, encasing a delightful sweet and sour homemade raspberry sauce.
Salmon Canape was so addictive I wished if there was more. Fresh smoked salmon slice, on top of a crunchy slice of bread.
Cannela de Bordeaux, was a mini cake with a rich custard interior enclosed with a thin caramelized shell flavour, that has the right amount of sweetness.
Cheese Tartin is a must, for all cheese lover, to savour and enjoy.
Pain au Chocolate features a crispy and aromatic pastry crust, enveloped with rich chocolate.
Madeleine with Vanilla was soft on the inside, and with a rough & slightly crunchy texture on the outside, like how a good madeleine should be.

We certainly enjoyed our very "atas" high tea experience at Maison Francaise. 5 Stars service and food, and 6 stars environment, definitely the best place for a lovely afternoon tea.

Dotz Cafe 2.0, Kota Kemuning

Driving around the unfamiliar roads of Kota Kemuning, my BFF and I painstakingly trying to locate Dotz Cafe. We were told that Dotz Cafe has been relocated, and Waze wasn't really helpful as it was trying to direct us to Dotz's Cafe old address.

We tried using Facebook and access to Maps, and thank goodness, it worked and we finally arrived at the cafe we have been yearning to visit for as far as I remember, so many aeons ago- Dotz Cafe.
Dotz Cafe, a cafe with a quirky name, and a beautiful facade. Dotz Cafe's sign is not so visible from far, so you'll have to keep your eyes peeled while looking for this place.
We were welcomed by the baristas warmly as we set foot into the quaint cafe. We choose to sit at the far end corner where two black comfy sofa sat, a secluded and cosy area for girl talk ;)
Love how they designed Dotz Cafe interior- sky blue walls, with matching blue frames for the doors & windows, sweet-looking curtains, and rustic wooden furnitures. The blue walls definitely have a soothing & calming effect on us.
Look around the cafe and you'll find many handmade items, that are too adorable to not snap a photo of it :")
The menu- I've never seen such an extensive selection of flavoured coffee before...Blueberry mocha, Banana Latte, Mint Latte etc. I wasn't adventurous enough to try em out so I decided to just stick to a cappuccino.
Food menu. The classic breakfast food, sandwiches and salads :)
I have to admit, the main reason why I'd been prying to visit Dotz Cafe for so long is because of their adorable & cute art on their food. You have to admit it, the food are really photogenic. The effort that Dotz Cafe put in to please their customers certainly put a smile on my face :)
Tiramisu RM10
Well yes, my camera was more amazed by the beautifully drawn cute little chocolate bear :)
Creamy cream cheese layer, sandwiched in between the soft and alcohol-and-coffee-infused ladies fingers layer, topped with caramel and crunchy nuts. It was love at first bite- Love how the crunchy nuts enveloped in sweet caramel was a total contrast to the soft & fluffy tiramisu cake. Even my partner in crime of the day was impressed.
Peanut Butter & Chocolate Thick Toast RM5
As I sink my teeth into the crunchy toast, I was overwhelmed by the warm, fluffy bread and rich, thick spread of the peanut butter. The drizzle of chocolate was a perfect companion to this simple yet satisfying snack.
We were definitely very satisfied with our desserts. The cake & toast was worth every single cents we paid.
Cappuccino RM8
"Would you prefer your coffee bitter or acidic?"
This question caught me off guard. I rarely get to choose how I'd like my coffee to be. Usually I'd just settle with whatever the cafe offers. Later on, the barista came over and apologized to me, stating that the cappuccino will only be done in about 15 minutes or so. Because of the change in weather, they have to allow the coffee machine to acclimatize (not sure if it is the right word to use but this is what we use in bio) itself before making my cappuccino.
There's just so much to love about this cafe- from the beautiful interior & facade, to the wonderful cakes & desserts, and how they plate it, the lovely coffee, the attentive baristas and wonderful service they offered. The drive from Subang Jaya to Kota Kemuning is a pain, with all the bumpy roads and wonderful lorries & trucks, but to drive to Kota Kemuning for a visit to Dotz Cafe is certainly worth it.

Grandeur Gallery Cafe, Kota Kemuning

My BFF and I once made plans to go to Kota Kemuning to try out some of the cafes there long time ago, but we scarped that plan because...well both of us can't drive at then LOL. Now that both of us are 18 & legal going on a food trip means no more public transport, or begging our parents to drop us there.

Come to think of it Kota Kemuning isn't that far away from Subang, just that the drive was a pain thanks to the bumpy roads and reckless truck drivers.

We were driving around Kota Kemuning's neighbourhood, painstakingly trying to locate Dotz Cafe, our first cafe on our agenda. My phone without any data was useless, and something's not right with my friend's GPS. So we decided to just head to this cafe with a sleek, fancy signboard.
Located at the second floor of the rows of shops facing the lake at Kota Kemuning. Grandeur Gallery Cafe is easy to spot thanks to it's prominent, classy sign board.
Step into Grandeur Gallery Cafe, and your sight will be welcomed by a dazzling chandelier and beautiful artworks hanging around the vibrant orange-yellow walls.

The interior of Grandeur Gallery Cafe was really cosy. Black blinds pulled over the windows, only allowing small beams of sunlight to shine through the slits. Grandeur Gallery Cafe is certainly a cafe where you'll just feel like sitting there for hours with a good book, if you don't mind the small gap between tables to maximize space efficiency.
The beautiful artworks, paintings & decoration in Grandeur Gallery Cafe really reminds me of Wood & Steel Cafe @ Kota Damansara. And like Wood & Steel, you have to make your order & payment at the counter.
Tea (Comes with Set)
Ceylon Tea, I guess.
Miss Sunshine RM14.90
Eggs & Caramelized Onions in a bread cup, roasted potatoes, salad & yoghurt. Portion seems a little small, even for one pax, but it's okay, we're here on a food trip to just try out how it taste like.
The roast potato was not bad, soft and nicely done. Yghurt was enjoyable, and salad was okay. But the eggs & caramelized onions, needed more flavouring, and perhaps filling, because it tasted as if something was lacking...

Grandeur Gallery Cafe would be a nice place to chill & enjoy the cosy environment. if you don't mind the slightly steeper price, considering the portion of the food. Service could have been better too, we felt a little it unwelcome to the cafe, which made us felt really uncomfortable and so we left straight after our meal.

Review: Shopping with Mr Lens

I have been wearing glasses ever since I was 5 years old. I used to despise wearing glasses because it slips down my nose easily whenever I go jogging, and I am in risk of breaking it when I play sports such as basketball.

I was over the moon when mum finally allowed me to wear contact lens when I was 14 years old. Every six months or so, I'll have to make a trip to the optical shop to order a fresh batch of contact lens, wait for about 2~3 weeks, and make another trip to the optical shop to collect my contact lens.

Now with Mr Lens, I finally can save all the trouble, and make my contact lens purchase with a few clicks at the comfort of my home :D

Mr Lens is a dynamic and well-established online Swiss-based company dedicated to provide the best & affordable eye-care product and efficient service. Mr Lens provides major brands of Contact Lens & Glasses from all over the world, with an array of colour and style to choose from.

And you know what's even better,
Mr Lens provides FREE SHIPPING (POS LAJU!) TO KLANG VALLEY!  (with minimum purchase RM50)

Refer to this page for other areas. Mr Lens also provides shipping worldwide! :)

Just a small snippet of glasses available at Mr Lens. Customers will be spoilt for choice while choosing for a suitable glasses for themselves, be it reading glasses, correction glasses, ray bands and so much more.

And not forgetting contact lens too! Daily, monthly, bimonthly....you name it! Red, green, blue, yellow, brown, olive...I was dazzled by the colours of contact lens offered by Mr Lens. I never knew that there is so many different colours of contact lens available!

Thanks to Butterfly Project Malaysia, I am entitled to out the contact lens sold at Mr Lens :D I've been wearing colourless contact lens ever since I started wearing contact lens, I decided to go for a coloured lens this time, for a change.

I was relieved to see that the range of power available was vast. My right eye has a different power from my left eye so I really need two different power range for my contact lens.

After selecting your lens/glasses, you can proceed to check out, where almost all cards/banks are accepted :) After your payment is made, a confirmation e-mail will be send to you. And after your order has been shipped, another e-mail will be sent to you, along with the tracking number so that you can estimate the arrival of your lenses. :)

Unfortunately for me, the colour I chose ran out of stock for my power :( Mr Lens was prompt and efficient in dealing that, and they immediately called me to inform me about the unfortunate news and arranged a new colour for me.
And sure enough, after two days, I received my package via poslaju! Kudos to Mr Lens' efficient and prompt service :)

And it even comes with two lolipop :P And also a casing to store your contact lens .
Party Green.
The contact lens was comfortable, even after wearing long hours. I am still quite not used to myself having green eyes though :P

Thanks you Mr Lens and Butterfly Project Malaysia!

I want to win a Gong Cha Treat for my Dad!

My dad, is not like how most dad is. He is like a typical Chinese dad. He loves Chinese Food, plays the flute, reads Chinese Literature, listen to classical Chinese musics and so on. BUT, he has a huge liking for things, that are not so Chinese. He loves pizzas. He loves cheese. And he secretly loves MCD. Time to time, he'll bring home a block of cheese to be enjoyed just like that from the supermarket. When I was young, whenever my mum is not around, he'll sneak us out for MCD, and allow us to order our own set (no sharing!) and even allowed us to upgrade the set to large!

And one thing my dad secretly loves, is GONG CHA. I've seen him lining up for Gong Cha in a crazily long queue, something which he usually won't bother to do. Not once, not twice, but numerous times.

But recently, dad stopped treating himself with his favourite food. My brother is furthering his studies in Australia next month, and I'll be enrolling in university soon, so dad has been trying to save up, by cutting his expenditure from everything he could.

He still buys me my favourite snack and food whenever I requested for it, like Gong Cha, but he stopped getting one for himself too. He always put his children

That's why, for my dad's birthday this year, I would really like to give my dad a surprise, and win this truckload of Gong Cha for him. He really deserved it.

The Humble Pie Co, Section 17

Pies. I love pies. Be it sweet, or savoury. Do you love pie? NO?! THEN WE CAN'T BE FRIENDS. Okay, just kidding. I steal that line from Guan Ren. :P

So when I heard of this new place in Section 17, I was really eager to try it out and immediately told Guan Ren about it. Sure enough, we were there for dinner & of course, pie.

The Humble Pie Co is located at the oh-parking-sangat-susah Section 17, same row as the infamous Kanna Curry House, and The Grind Burger Bar.
There's an el-fresco dining area and also an indoor, fully air-conditioned indoor dining area. We opted for the indoor area because smoking is allowed outdoors.

The interior was fairly simple- simple plain white wall, oak wood tables & white chairs, with comfy cushions on it. The El-Fresco area had a more vibrant look with the orange frame separator and the contrasting colour pillow.

Not to forger, the few quirky addition of these whisk-shape light bulb .

The menu. For now the food menu is pretty limited at The Humble Pie, and limited quantity is served daily so be here early! We wanted to try out the Pesto with Toast but it was sold out :(
Oh and, don't forget to check out their desserts display, where the pies sit...

It was love at first sight. I just knew it was. When we first stepped into The Humble Pie, the Banoffee Pies (which, ahem, was our main agenda) was no where to be seen. Only Duffee Pie (Durian+Toffee) was available. Luckily for us, a fresh batch of Banoffee Pie was shipped out of the kitchen. Luck was certainly on our side!

The Banoffee Pie seems to be their hot selling items, as it was going like hot cakes! One by one, being snap up by customers walking in.
Our dinner!
Hot Earl Grey Chocolate RM11
I'd tried Earl Grey Chocolate in another cafe once, and since then my impression towards Earl Grey Chocolate is just plain bad. But The Humble Pie Co turned that around. This cup of Earl Grey Chocolate was simply the best chocolate drink I've ever tried. No kidding. The Earl Grey chocolate has an aromatic Earl Grey scent that was sweet and memorable, it blended in so well with the rich chocolate taste. A perfect chocolate drink. Recommended!
Pesto Pasta RM15
Pasta tossed with home made pesto sauce and shredded cheese.
The pesto sauce was just irresistibly aromatic and flavourful. A perfect blend of olive oil, pine nuts, and basil. Each bite packs a punch of flavours, that tickles my taste buds, tempting me to go for another mouth full. I just couldn't have enough of it.
Pesto Pasta with Chicken RM18
Same as the Pesto Pasta above, with the addition of generous chunks of shredded chicken. Yumss

Banoffee Pie RM12 (3.5 inch)
Digestive cookie base, jam packed with bananas, topped with cream & dusted with cocoa/coffee powder.

Crumbly base, with the right amount of sweetness and crunchiness, fresh & sweet banana filling, with a creamy and airy top, oh, the perfect dessert to end my perfect night. Just perfect.
The Humble Pie Co certainly impressed me, not just with their pie, but with their pastas & Earl Grey Chocolate too.
