Buffalo Steakhouse , Sunway Mentari

My very first blogpost, which I did not procrastinate for days. Yes I visited this place earlier in the noon just now :) The reason behind my efficiency is pretty simple: I lost all of my food photos from previous food trips and I am too lazy to convert the remaining photos which survived the virus attack from arw format to jpeg.

Right after my classes this afternoon, Guan Ren picked me up from college as we planned to study together at Taylor's Lakeside campus. Students of Lakeside would definitely agree with me on this- there's nothing much to eat there. Yes, there's the conventional Subway, Face to Face Noodle house & Old Town White Coffee, but mehhhhhh. You know what I mean ;)

So Guan Ren had a light bulb moment and he suggested to have lunch at this restaurant @ Sunway Mentari. I was expecting a hawker food lunch & I didn't bring my bulky DSLR out so..enjoy the pictures from my lovely phone :D 
Buffalo Steakhouse
Tucked in one of the shoplots in the infamous for you-know-what Sunway Mentari area, Buffalo Steakhouse has been around for quite some time but I've never heard of its presence until today. 
Guan Ren visited this place years ago and he commented that the set lunch was pretty affordable, and to my surprise the price of the set lunch did not fluctuate! It was still the same as it was years ago! 
The interior was really Western-ish & Outback-ish, or cowboy-inspired to put it simply. Wooden walls, with oldies poster plastered on it, and cowboy hats sitting on the shelves, giving the place a Wild Wild West atmosphere. 
The Set Lunch are priced at RM16.90 nett! It comes with a bowl of soup of the day, bun & butter, a choice of Hot Cappuccino, Iced Lemon Tea or Hot Tea! BBQ Fish, Lamb Chop, Chicken Chop, Fish & Cheap & Cordon Bleu Fish are the choices available for the main so take your pick!
Here's a small glimpse of Buffalo Steakhouse's main menu. Buffalo Steakhouse spoils customers with a wide array of Western delights at a very affordable price! It is very rare to see such a well-decorated restaurant with friendly staffs & server to serve western food at this range of price nowadays.
Bun & Butter
The wholemeal bun was home-made. It was warm when served. However, I suspect that the staffs heated up the bun using a microwave as it hardens after a while...Not a really pleasant experience.
Soup of the Day- Mushroom Soup (Ala-carte RM4.50)
Tasted like a bowl of flour and seasoning :S
Garlic Bread RM2
Guan Ren ordered this as he was too full for a full set. According to him, the garlic bread was....hard.
Hot Cappuccino 
.....this cup of coffee was just...weird...You can see from the picture that there was some weird white powdery substances floating on top of the drink. I tried stirring the drink but it wouldn't dissolve. I had a sip
Cordon Bleu Steak RM16.90 (Set Lunch)
Deep fried beef steak, topped with cheese & gravvy, served with a side of coleslaw, fries & corn.

I thought that Cordon Bleu steak was something rather unique so I decided to give it a go. In most places, Cordon Bleu is a dish where a chicken is rolled & stuffed with cheese & deep fried into perfection)
Portion wise I would say it was pretty big- the portion certainly worth more than what I paid. I was pretty stuffed at the end of my meal.

Taste wise? While I pretty much enjoyed the crunchy tenpura batter which was deep fried into perfection, soaked in the flavourful & thick gravy & topped with creamy cheese, I couldn't really decide whether I really liked this dish or not. I wouldn't say that it was bad, nor it was good. The Cordon Bleu steak wasn't greasy at all despite being deep-fried. The beef tasted really homecook-ish, like how my mum would cook a steak at home. So it doesn't really taste "authentically western". The food I had reminds me of my primary school days, where my mum used to take me to food courts for cheap & affordable western food when I throw a tantrum, demanding western food & protesting against Chinese food. Yeah....

Overall? Service was pleasant, environment was all good, but the food served there was not really my cup of tea. Buffalo Kitchen is inclined to the old school, "local" western food which might appeal more to the older generation.

Breakfast @ Flat White Cafe, SS15

Hello! Sorry for the long hiatus. My beloved lappie was attacked by some notorious virus last Friday :( so much for antivirus. Sigh. My dad being a tech-savvy person got it fixed in a day, but sadly, my data was all corrupted and ...poof...there goes all my photos. Food photos, and photos from all my recent trips just gone like that :(

Nope, I did not back up my data on my laptop *facepalm self* 

So dear readers, please be careful while surfing on the net. Just last week Guan Ren scanned through my chrome and he found a few weird extensions (malwares aka spybugs) that I did not recall installing them.


BUT ANYWAYSSSS glad to have my laptop back. On Monday, Guan Ren and I went to one of our favourite coffee shop in SS15, Flat White Cafe for a study session. We really love studying there, thanks to the cosy ambiance & space.

We haven't been visiting that place in a while and apparently Flat White Cafe now serves All-Day Breakfast! Guan Ren was sitting at one of the seat that was directly facing the menu (which, its description, was really a test of holding back temptation) so on the very next day, we decided to have lunch together @ Flat White Cafe since our break was in phase :D

If you drop by Flat White Cafe from 12pm-2pm on a weekday, you are entitled to the Lunch Promo where each breakfast set comes with two cups of black coffee/orange juice :D

The friendly barista recommended us to go for the American set as the portion is suffice for two. We were served shortly after ordering. Thumbs up for efficiency!
American RM23
Scrambled eggs, Sauteed Mushrooms, Beef Bacon, Chicken Sausages, Thick Toast, Hashed Browns, Grilled Tomatoes & Leafy Greens.
 The barista was right. The set was ginormous!
How did it fare?

The scrambled eggs were lovely. Fluffy & fragrant, I kept reaching out for more. Bacon was perfectly grilled, not too dry nor "hard". The grilled tomatoes were juicy and lovely. I particularly enjoyed the thick toast the most. So fluffy and rich with a buttery aroma.The chicken sausages and hash browns on the other hand tasted average.

One thing I wish could be better was the sauteed mushroom. The sauteed mushroom was a mixture of button mushroom & shitake mushroom which...I find it quite odd. I am not quite a fan of shitake mushroom as it has a distinctive pungent smell which I don't really fancy. :/
It was a satisfying brunch (other than the mushrooms). Price wise was quite affordable as the portion is suffice for two moderate eater. :) After scrolling through their instagram account , I'd really like to return to try out the other breakfast set!

FIQ Gastronomy, SS19

"There's a new restaurant in SS19...and their food is good..." My brother told me, as he showed me the pictures of the food served. And bam, I told myself, I am sooo going there the next day! And sure enough, I dragged Guan Ren along to this new place!
FIQ Gastronomy, a relatively new restaurant nestled in the less-traveled section of SS19. FIQ Gastronomy occupies a corner lot amid a row of office shop-lots that overlooks Empire Shopping Gallery & Subang Parade from far, so parking there was a breeze on a weekend.

The interior of FIQ was bright, soothing & calming with the white-washed walls paired up with the oak furniture with bright-coloured cushion. It has an instantaneous calming effect to my mind, as I feel relaxed as I step into the restaurant.

The menu was simple & clean- two sheets of paper, clipped to a wooden clipboard. The food items are pretty limited for now, with the desserts menu featuring a vaster choices compared to the main/appetizer/sandwichers
My brother told me to go for their Carrot Soup and Risotto, but unfortunately, it was NOT AVAILABLE on that day :( Feeling depressed, I decided to forget about being unhealthy and requested for a Caesar Salad instead.
FIQ Gastronomy adapt the "Open Kitchen" concept. The kitchen was only separated from the seating area  by a half brick-wall!
We had a clear view of the chefs in action from our seat :)
We get to observe how meticulously the chefs assembled the sandwiches, plate the dishes, prepare the desserts & so on! However, it might get a little hot & noisy at times or when the orders at the kitchen fluctuates =p

It was really interesting seeing them plating the dishes. Scroll down and you'll realize that each elements of the dish was carefully arranged, like what they do in fine-dining
Iced Latte RM9
It gets a little too diluted when left too long. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like that as I am not an iced-coffee drinker.
Caesar Salad RM10
Romaine Lettuce topped with Parmesan Cheese, Croutons & Beef Bacons

The lettuces were fresh & crisps. The saltiness of the Parmesan Cheese & Beef Bacon was well-balanced. The crunchy croutons gives the dish an extra crunch which was pretty addictive.

Mac & Cheese RM14
The Mac & Cheese was baked with four different types of cheese and topped with breadcrumbs. However, this dish was a let down as the cheese sauce was pretty diluted :/
Do take note that this dish falls under the "Appetizer" category, so the portion was really small.
Crunchy Calamaris RM11
The calamari rings were a delight! The calamaris were tender & juicy, a total contrast of their crunchy tenpura layer. Definitely one of the best Calamari Rings I've ever tasted!

Overall Rating: 6.5/10
The food was not really outstanding, but not bad either. Perhaps their dishes that are not available on that day (Risotto, Ravioli & Carrot Soup) would fare better as my brother gave me a positive feedback on those dish. The service was pleasant & welcoming, and the environment was pretty cosy & well-lit (but it might get a little too hot at times). However, price is on the steeper side, as I heard most of their chefs worked in hotels before. I would really like to try out their Risotto or Carrot Soup one day!

Valentines 2014 Part 2: Just Heavenly @ Bangsar Shopping Centre + Publika

Continued from PART I

After our lovely dinner at Monte's, Guan Ren & I decided to have DESSERTS! It was easy picking out a dessert spot, as me, Jia Qi, being the blogger of (refer to header) & Bangsar Shopping Centre is where the HQ of one of KL's famous cake shop is located....

 Just Heavenly, a shop specializing in CAKES, CAKES, & CAKES. I'm sure most of you are familiar, or have at least heard of Just Heavenly before when it comes to CAKES.

Just Heavenly, is the brainchild of Allan Yap and Nigel Skelchy, and it was established in the year 2001. They started off as an online shop, delivering cakes to doorsteps & finally opened their first Cafe in the year 2007. Rumour has it that Just Heavenly's cakes are the best in KL, and I have been dying to try it outand my dream finally come true :")
The mouth-watering display of cakes cakes & cakes! I could just stare at the display for hours! Guan Ren & I took a loooooooong time to decide on which cake to order, as all of them seemed so tempting and delicious! 

After scanning through the display, we spot the word "BANANA" and "GELATO" , and we knew, THIS IS IT. Banana Cake served with a scoop of Gelato! Most people would go for their signature Death by Chocolate Cake but somehow we were feeling slightly healthier on that night haha :)

Banana Cake with Vanilla Gelato RM19
The staffs were kind enough to heat the banana cake up for us :)
Moist in texture, rich in banana taste, with a sweetness that was just alright. The pairing up of the icy cold Vanilla Gelato & the warm & moist banana cake was a perfect scenario of a perfect marriage. Simply lovely!
A kind lady offered to help us take a photo together :") I really liked the interior of Just Heavenly. The sky blue walls and white furnitures gives the place a dreamy & relaxing vibes. A perfect place to chill & clear one's mind.

A really pleasant dining experience, with warm hospitality, a cosy environment, & lovely desserts. Will be ordering their cakes for any upcoming celebrations, I am sure (:

After that Guan Ren suggested that we go to Empire Damansara as they have replaced the colourful umbrellas with red lanterns in conjunction with CNY. However, the road was congested so waze suggested that we take a detour to Sri Hartamas area.
& so we decided to head to Publika instead :)

The infinity room is a dark makeshift room, surrounded by mirrors & optic fibre dangling from the ceiling. It was really mystical & beautiful, but unfortunately noob photographer here doesn't know how to take a nice photo inside ahahah

Well, that's all for Valentines 2014! That day felt like a dream to me. So thank you so much, Guan Ren. Words can't describe how happy I am. Thank you.

Valentine 2014 Part 1: Monte's Wine Bar & Restaurant, Bangsar Shopping Centre

Part 2

HI! More of a personal post here hehe. (I have been publishing about food food & food most of the time) No worries there won't be any mushy love letters/essays but just a recollection of events on Valentines Day :b However, if you're only interested in the food you can skip the first half of this blog post =p

14 of February 2014, marks my very very first Valentine Day celebration.

A week before Valentines, Guan Ren already told me that he will be planning the agenda for that day. When I asked where will we be heading to, he'll pull a serious face, and utter the word "LORONG" in a serious tone.

(Note: Lorong is an open-air mamak which operates from 5pm-5am near our college. Surprisingly, they serves very good Maggie Mee Goreng & Banana Milkshake that is extremely cheap & big in portion)

The teasing went on and on throughout the whole week before Valentines. :p

And finally, the big day arrived! The surprise started early in the morning on that day.

I received a chocolate delivery in college from a chubby cupid (no, really LOL!) from the Anime Society in the morning. The chocolate has a card written "Here's surprise no1" on it which provoked my creativity further. No1...does that means that there's more surprises coming up?

Guan Ren is the most creative & unpredictable person I've ever met. I still remember back in our high school days when both of us were studying bio together, I'd tell him that I'd like to dissect his head and see what is going on inside there, LOL!

Guan Ren said that he'll be picking me up at 5pm because he said we'll be heading to Lorong 2 which is much imba & far away. He told me to "dress nicely but not too nice". I nearly wore my shorts out because I partially believed what he said & was afraid of overdressing LOL. But in the end I decided to just wear my maxi skirt I bought from Japan two years ago since it can function as a casual wear and also a decent dress.

And thank goodness I didn't wear my shorts because Guan Ren was really well-dressed on that night!

Surprise #2: Mochi from Akachan!

"Lorong 2 very far away leh! So have this in case you're hungry." 

Soft, tender & chewy in texture. Ahhh, I just couldn't have enough of Akachan Q mochi. Thank you so so sooo much for the Mochi! :")))

The car journey to "LORONG 2" was quite a long one. Guan Ren said he has never been there before so we had to use waze to get our way there. I was in charge with the navigation but of course I didn't check the destination as the suspense was exciting hahaha :P

We used NPE and exited at Bangsar! Took a few turns to avoid the jam...and arrived at our location: Bangsar Shopping Centre (aka Lorong 2 lol!)

For the nth time, thank goodness I did not wore my shorts! hahahah

Guan Ren said he asked his friends' & brother's advice and they agreed that BSC would be a suitable location, but parking might be a nuisance. The moment he mentioned about the parking problems we found a nice parking spot! A few, to be exact :O #parkingluckyay

After we alighted his car, Guan Ren told me to find & take note of the parking lot number. Without me realizing it, he opened his car boot and took out a bouquet of roses.

I don't know about you, but I'm those typical girls who really loves flower. #dontjudgeme

I froze for a split second there. Engulfed by happiness. Words couldn't describe how happy I was am :") ehe the flowers are paced next to my bed so that I could wake up to the beautiful sight of flowers.

I didn't expect so much from him. Felt really bad because I didn't prepare anything for him on that day. Uhh, I just gave him a handmade socks doll comment.

Walked around BSC, exploring every floors because Guan Ren said his reservation is at 8pm. Guan Ren did a really great job on picking the location cause BSC wasn't crowded with couples around heh =p. When questioned where will we dining at he would pull a cheeky face saying: "Oh, there! Coffee Bean! The one here is so much more imba than the one in front of college!" 

Dinner time arrived and Guan Ren revealed our dinner place:

Rewind back to an hour before the dinner. Guan Ren and I were exploring BSC and we walked pass Monte's

"Wahhh...what a classy restaurant," I said "Look at all the wine bottles! High class place leh o_o"

Little did I know we are supposed to dine in that restaurant. LOL. Shocked beyond words, I couldn't believe it.

" you think I will look like a jakun if I started snapping photos around?"

I asked Guan Ren in a nervous tone. LOL. It was my very first Candle Light dinner, and my first time dining in such a classy restaurant with wine bottles aligned neatly on the rows of shelf at the entrance of the restaurant.

Monte's Restaurant & Wine Bar was recommended by one of Guan Ren's classmate who frequents this place. He even offered kind suggestions of food to order hehe :)
The interior was elegant & classy. The french windows overlooking the beautiful lighting outside of BSC created a gorgeous backdrop. Vintage paintings hanged around on the wallpapered walls, with a soft jazz music playing in the background. Each table had a beautiful pink flower placed in a wine glass, and a little candlelight to accompany it. The atmosphere was simply perfect for a date.
 Ginger Tea (Pot) RM8
The waiter asked us if we'd like to have wine but no thank you hahaha. The ginger tea has a fragrant & aromatic gingery taste. A perfect drink to calm our senses.

Complementary brioche buns.
The buns were warm, soft & fluffy. I ate em on its own because it was already very tasty on its own :)
 Mushroom Soup RM11
The mushroom soup has a creamier base. Each mouthful was a delight! Creamy in texture, and full of mushroom goodness. We enjoyed the soup till the very last drop
Snapper Fillet RM31
Snapper fillet cooked at your own choice of methods, served with a side of fries & salad.
This was Guan Ren's order and he requested his fish to be grilled with garlic butter. The garlic butter was further topped with cheese, much to his delight. Fish was tender and delicious! Couldn't help but to ask Guan Ren to give me a little more of his share to me ehehe.

Norwegian Salmon Steak RM38
Grilled Salmon topped with Tomato Salsa, served with a side of Wedges & Greens.
The salmon was delightful! It was really fresh and well-done. Each bite was packed wholesomeness and freshness. Loved the honey mustard sauce that accompanied the fish.

Overall Rating: 8.0/10
The service was excellent. The waiters were fast & efficient and they were really helpful & friendly, especially in with our camera haha! Lovely & classy ambiance, serving really satisfying gastronomical delight. :)
